I saw a woman on the news the other day holding a sign that read, "Abortion is Health Care."
I sat there scratching my head, trying to figure out how any rational-minded person could think this way.
Then
I saw an article about the American College of Obstetricians and
Gynecologists that gave me a little insight: "Abortion care is included
in medical training, clinical practice, and continuing medical
education."
The
insight I gained did not increase my understanding of how someone can
think that the care and health of anyone involves intentionally taking a
life, but there it was, a part of medical training, practice and
education.
Today,
as our country seems set on enshrining the evil of abortion in state
constitutions, we need to pray for the intervention of St. Gianna
Beretta Molla. Here is a little background . . .
"a
fibroma was found during early pregnancy. Gianna was given the option
of having an abortion, a total hysterectomy, or the riskiest option of
only removing the tumor. Gianna chose to have only the fibroma removed,
putting the chance to save the baby over the risk to herself. The rest
of the pregnancy was difficult, and Gianna made it clear that if there
was a problem during the delivery, they should save the child’s life
rather than her own." (St. Gianna Center)
Due
to post-operative complications resulting in an infection, Gianna died
at home, and the baby survived. Her daughter grew up to be a physician.
Gianna was a devoted wife, mother and pediatric physician, and she is
now a saint!
Here are a few quotes from her daughter, that lived, due to the sacrificial love of her mother (catholicsun.org/2017):
"I would not be here if I was not loved so much."
The
world needs “my mother’s life with us, and perhaps today more than ever
— her exemplary Christian life, her witness [and] her sacred respect
for life.”
“life is … the most sacramental gift we always honor, respect and defend.”
We
live in a throw-away society that seriously lacks respect for human
life. We need to do something about this slippery slope by promoting
the dignity of all human life.
St. Gianna, pray for us.
