I re-watched the Bishop Robert Barron video about people who are considered unaffiliated. These are people who do not see a need for church and sometimes do not even believe in God at all. They just don't see the connection between God and their life.
The video also reveals that too often, people think that science and religion cannot coexist. This is not true, of course, and it is not what the church teaches at all. But for those for whom science provides the ultimate truth, they do not recognize the possibility that the church always seeks the truth, and in doing so, is not separated from science.
I think an important point made in the video is that science and religion are not one and the same. They cannot be exchanged, one for the other. They coexist, but they do different things. It is not wise to take up one without the other.
The picture above reminds me of the chaos of the world coming into being. For many people today, this beginning point that faith accepts--that God created the world and everything in it, including us humans--can be a challenge.
Also, the Barron video stressed that one of the essential ways people can be drawn back to God is through the beauty of his creation around us. Beauty is a universal bridge. Nature, like in the picture above, causes us to pause as we ponder the growth that can come out of stillness. Our personal growth rises out of the stillness of our very being. When we listen in the quiet, we open up possibilities, particularly, a space to allow God in. This may be a new experience for some of us, but we need to give God that space. We will undoubtedly be surprised.
I heard a news anchor comment recently that while we long for a return to our life as it was before this pandemic, we should consider what we have gained during it. A slowing down of our lives, maybe a deeper bonding with our loved ones or even a greater awareness of what is truly important. Stillness can do that for us.
Of course, there are times in this life when we are meant to soar . . .
and their are times when we are meant to rest . . .
But at all times, if we can open our minds and hearts and entertain the possibility that God is present, loves us and walks with us, no matter what we face, our lives will be all the richer and more beautiful, than we can even imagine.
Trust in the reality that God exists, and take all of your cares to him. Let his peace flow upon you and provide for all your needs.
